Elliot Smethwyck

Elliot Smethwyck had always loved Quidditch. For as long as he could remember, his father had taken him to see local games whenever they could afford it. With the family struggling for money, Elliot never got to practice when he was a child, and was therefore devastated when he didn’t make the Ravenclaw Quidditch team in his second year. It took him four more tryouts before he finally accepted that he just wasn’t that good.

After graduating he took accepted job at the newly formed Department for Magical Games and Sports, and spent his weekends on long broomstick rides across the country. But even though he enjoyed the rides, they always left his rear sore for days, and he soon started tinkering with ways to make it more comfortable. It took many trials and errors before he finally managed to create something that worked - the Cushioning Charm.

Elliot loved his job, and with hard work he rose within the department. When it was time for Nuada Connolly, the first Head of the Department, to retire, Elliot was the clear choice as his successor. He governed over the department until old age, when he retired with his wife Morven (a direct descendant of Walter Parkins, founder of the Wigtown Wanderers) to the Welsh countryside where they lived until he became infected with a bad case of Dragon Pox and passed away.

Relatives

The Smethwyck family is full of excellent fliers, Ministry personnel, and skilled potioneers. But not even though some of the family's members rose to fame within the wizarding community, not all fared so well.
